As people were forced to adapt to the ever-changing atmosphere of the COVID-19 pandemic, the sport card collection hobby saw a tremendous boom in demand and value, with some attributing this boom to collectors’ desire to have something nostalgic to accompany their investment. Third-party authenticators saw unprecedented demand for raw cards to be slabbed, and the hobby as a whole has begun to reach heights never seen before.
In October of 2016, a world record was set for the sale of a sports card when a PSA-certified T206 Honus Wagner (EX 5 MC) sold for $3,120,000. Since August of 2020, we’ve seen many other cards eclipse that number.

Record-high prices have trickled down to low and mid grades as well, with the top cards from some of the most desirable sets in the sport card collection hobby (1909-11 T206 Baseball, 1952 Topps Baseball, etc.) continuing to see strong demand.
